Boulder Church Plant Update- August

Two months have flown by for us in Boulder and there is talk of school starting already! :)
As you can imagine, our Launch Team has enjoyed the beautiful Colorado summer. We have spent the past eight weeks bonding, growing, and adjusting. Whether it's a new home, neighborhood, friendship or job, each family is getting more and more settled with the reality of a new start. Each week we have been meeting 2-3 evenings for fellowship, Bible study, prayer, evangelism, and worship. Naturally, it takes time for each family and individual to grow into deeper friendship with one another. However, praise God with us that the unity and camaraderie among the team is healthy and getting stronger week by week.

A few days ago we celebrated together with over 40 friends and family members for our Emmaus Road Church Plant Dedication. It was so exciting to be encouraged by many close brothers and sisters in Christ from a handful of locations around the Mid-west. We worshiped in song, prayer and testimony to God's goodness. Thanks again to all of you that were able to make the trip out to be with us on Saturday. It truly was a meaningful time for us. One of our Launch Teammates, Brandon Brinker shared the following testimony during the dedication:

"It is good to finally be here in Colorado! The last couple of months have been kind of up and down for us. The excitement of following God and moving to a new city followed by the frustration of not being able to move with my family, I had some hard lessons to learn before I was actually able to get settled with my family. As most of you probably know God answered a huge prayer with the job he provided. I was able to stay with the same company and the only catch was I had to work during the day and they were going to make me take weekends and holidays off. It sounded great to me! So we decided when I was going to start my job and when we were going to move. The only hitch (in our perspective) was that God had another plan. It was over a month before I moved my family to Boulder and they were able to join me. It is truly amazing how long it can take sometimes for us to learn Who is in control!
I think in a lot of ways, God was preparing me for the spiritual battle to come. Even though we are here now it has not been all smooth sailing. The enemy has been on the move. But even in the midst of trials, God has given us amazing opportunities! I have been able to develop friendships with several guys at work. Michelle, my wife, has had a great opportunity with a neighbor down the street who has two girls and a boy. There are so many opportunities to just get out and be with people, is that not our ambition as missionaries? I am excited to see what God has in store in the days, weeks, and even years to come. After all, He is the one in control. We are just following his lead." (Brandon and Michelle Brinker, children: Brooklyn, Sydney, and Zach)

Beginning in August we are entering into a 9 month leadership training season with our Launch Team. Last night we walked through the various objectives of this first season of training and I have attached the document to this email for your review as well, in order that your prayers may be specific to our need and church plant life.

Boulder Church Plant Upate-July

Apart from me you can do nothing… jn.15.5 These words have been resonating within our hearts as we venture out into these new lands. We have thoroughly enjoyed a few different environments as a church plant team to help in our spiritual growth, fellowship, and mission. One of the highlights of our week has been Sunday nights at the Kautz’s home. As a team we have focused this time of fellowship, prayer, praise, and bible study to bond us together and equip us for the mission of taking the gospel to the Front Range. God has blessed us with a couple girls from the Denver area who have volunteered to help us with the kids over the summer. What a huge blessing they have been.

It has been so neat to hear the stories every week of how God continues to open doors for new relationship and provide conversations with the people around us. As we actively pray and seek he continues to bring people across our path to love, share our hope with.

Another meaningful environment has been our life groups that meet weekly. The ladies have been meeting for prayer, accountability, and are going through Beth Moore’s Believing God study. The guys have been digging into the Psalms.

God has continued to remind us that it is not about us, and that we are only able to serve him through his power. That reminder has prompted us to spend significant time in our life groups and gatherings in prayer. Praying for each other, the people we are meeting, and the people of Boulder County we have yet to meet. It has reminded us to continue praying throughout the week, and shows us our need to be in to word and abiding in Christ daily.

Would you continue to pray for us as we seek to depend on God for opportunities and wisdom in meeting and reaching the people around us? Would you pray for boldness and love as we interact with them. Will you pray for Pastor Kris as he finishes out the SportReach Missions trip in Spain? God is at work all around us and he allows us to join Him, what a beautiful thing!

Boulder Church Plant Update-June

It feels like a long time coming, but the Emmaus Road Church Plant Team is now living in Boulder County, Colorado! Five families have officially relocated from Iowa and Nebraska. Hopefully we don't look too much like fish out of water out here in the Rocky Mountains. ha..ha..

Here are a few highlights from the past month and some summer plans to keep us prayed up on as we begin Kingdom Work together as an Emmaus Road family.

Three weeks ago, North Platte Berean church, one of our sending churches, hosted a special commissioning service for the Launch Team families. It was such an encouragement and confirmation to all of us. Each couple had the opportunity to share miraculous stories of God's provision and leading. Thank the Lord with us for his faithfulness! We will continue taking greater steps of faith knowing that God has raised up an army of "senders", not just from one local church family, but many.
Two of the five Launch Team families were house hunting during the month of May. There was some uncertainty of whether or not they would be able to find affordable housing near the other three families that had already found housing, but without any trouble and with little headache, both families were able to find great housing options by the third week in May. Another huge praise! As many of you know, the Boulder County cost of living isn't real comparable to greater Iowa/Nebraska costs.
Now that we are together as a Launch Team we are aiming to launch two primary ministries in June. The first will be our Worship Gathering, where we will meet in one of our homes for worship, Bible teaching, fellowship, and prayer. We will also rotate couples in leading the Emmaus Road children through their weekly gathering time. We are thankful that Jeff and Tara have a basement! The second will be our Life Group ministry, an intentional time for the men and women to get together regularly on their own. Encouragement, heart-level conversation, accountability, and spiritual growth will be a high priority. Life Groups will be an excellent environment to introduce new friends to the Emmaus Road Family.
Community Bridge Building will also be at the heart of Emmaus Road this summer. The idea here is not necessarily to have a formal "service project" each month, but rather to look for various ways to get involved with meeting the needs of the Boulder County. It may be serving as volunteers for a community social event, public agency, clean up effort, or it may simply mean participating in community events, programs, or recreation leagues. The sky is the limit here! Our mission is to, "let {our} good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise {our} heavenly Father."
Heads up!! Sometime during the first half of August we would like to invite our Sending Team to a dedication service in Boulder. We are looking at either Saturday, August 5th or 12th. We would love to have any of you come out for this special day! More to come on this...
Josh Luse and myself will be meeting with several other pastors and local church leaders this summer. We are anxious to get to know some of our brother and sisters in the area. Pray that God leads us to the right network for encouragement and unity!

Boulder Church Plant Update- April

This month's update includes an introduction from one of our launch team families, Peter and Jan Tighe. I trust you will enjoy learning more about our team and knowing more specifically who you are praying for and how you can be praying.

In about 6 weeks, give or take a day, most of the launch team will have moved to Boulder County. You can imagine the anticipation with us and can be in prayer for patience and steadfastness among the launch team, as several of us remain in our current circumstances and location for another month or more. Already, the families that are in Boulder are making new friends with believers and unbelievers. A small group is underway among those already there for encouragement, prayer, and strengthening of relationships. We have a sense that the Lord will begin adding to our number other believers that have recently moved to the area or who have been church hunting, but not yet a part of a community with other believers. Please be in prayer with us as well about this weekly small group gathering during the month of May. We are asking God to continue raising up a critical band of missionaries, willing to become unified and equipped with another in the Greatest Work know to the Christian on this side of eternity!--Kris

As a brief introduction, my name is Peter Tighe. I am 32 years old, very happily married to my bride, Jan (31 yrs.), since 1996. We have two beautiful young children, daughter Jonatha (5 yrs.) and son Aidan (3 yrs.). My vocation is finance at Charles Schwab & Co. in Denver. My passion is ministry. My wife is a diligent stay at home mom. We were called of God to join the launch team back in late December and moved to Boulder County in March.
To attempt to communicate all God has been teaching us in the past couple of months in a newsletter just isn't feasible. Therefore, let me share with you one continuous lesson that God has imparted on us. Deny self, enjoy Christ. We have been overwhelmed recently how gracious and how good God is in how he communicates with us and matures us in our faith. Both of us have sensed God continuing to remind us to live for him (enjoy Christ) and serve others (deny self), especially in the arena of prayer. It is so easy to arrive to a new environment and begin focusing on all it lacks compared to what we've had. Things such as our living situation, our circle of friends, our familiar routine, and overall, our comforts. And this lesson extends beyond the material and most importantly into the spiritual. This has been evident mostly in our prayer life. We're reminded in Colossians not only to pray, but how to pray...

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you and asking God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all spiritual wisdom and understanding. And we pray this in order that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and may please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, and joyfully giving thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of the saints in the kingdom of light. For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins."

Here's a few simple thoughts in response to this...keep praying, seek wisdom, live holy, be productive, mature in faith, be used by God, gain endurance, give thanks, look forward to eternity. Are there really any other important matters in life? Not really. These are the things that matter most. Everything else will fall into place according to God's providence.

We are humbled to be a part of Emmaus Road and also very excited. I hope you join in that excitement as our family in Christ. God is at work in Boulder County. A place known for rejecting him is about to be overcome by his Spirit. Not because the launch team is moving here, but because God loves these people so very much and can't stand them not knowing him. He is so good! His love truly endures forever and his word will not return void. Pray and ask God to fill us all on the team with wisdom and understanding and to know his will. In return, we will give thanks to the Father and rejoice with you as we anticipate eternity together.

Boulder Church Plant-March Update

Over the past 30 days, two families have already relocated to the Boulder area in Colorado. Peter and Jan Tighe and Jeff and Tara Kautz, along with their young children have stepped out, in faith toward their calling to be participants in the Emmaus Road church plant work. Be encouraged by and pray for the families and households that, one by one, are moving forward in the mission of going and making disciples (Matt 28:19). Your prayers, encouragement, friendship, and financial support continue to make a difference!--Kris

In college, I knew two guys that went skydiving every Saturday. They often asked me to go and I usually used the excuse of insufficient funds to hide the fact that I knew I would have to be kicked out of a plane involuntarily to use a parachute. It's still something I hope I get to try someday, but I know it will be scary.

Last week I felt like I got kicked out of an airplane. As most of you know, the Lord opened the doors for Tara and I to move to CO a little earlier than we had anticipated. In many ways, I felt like leveraging my legs against the door of the plane while I was being pushed from behind. I knew we were making the "jump", but I wasn't ready yet. It's plain to see that the Lord has directed our paths as I believe He has provided an ideal job and living arrangements better than we imagined. I'm confident that He has moved us out early for very specific reasons and I'm excited to find out what they are.

The week we spent in Peru helped to focus me and remind me of my mission. Check out the SportReach website for details of the trip. During the course of the week, over 1700 children heard the gospel and a high percentage made decisions for Christ. I was reminded that we have a very specific mission during our short stay on this Earth. We also have a short time to complete it. I was reading in Psalms this am and David said "Teach me to count the days." (Ps 30) There are so many reminders from Paul and others that our life is short and our mission is critical. May we take the opportunities we have today to be faithful with the "good works" that have been prepared in advance for us. (Eph. 2:10)

Just being out here this week has reminded me of the immensity of our mission and the "lostness" of mankind. What a privilege to be part of building the Kingdom alongside our King. May we count everything else rubbish in light of knowing Christ Jesus.

Some friends of ours from Peru, evangelists at heart, reminded me that we are fishers of men. They reminded me how sweet it will be to hear our Father say "Well done, good and faithful servant." May we continue to fish "until all nets are full."

Everyone was amazed and gave praise to God. They were filled with awe and said, "We have seen remarkable things today." Luke 5:26 (NIV)

As a team we have found ourselves amazed and in awe of our great God, and the way He continues to work around us. During one of our recent team conference calls while studying Acts we were reminded of the incredible ways in which God revealed Himself while working through the church. In Acts 2:43 we read, “Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.”

We were challenged by the words of a pastor friend, “We are constantly dancing on the edge of this mysterious, unimaginable, unpredictable presence of God, where we understand on any given day the most amazing, miraculous things may happen.” Every day there is a sense of anticipation that this will be a “God day” and things that cannot be planned, strategized, understood or explained may happen before our very eyes.” As a team we want to be ready for and fully dependent upon God for the things He wants to do in and through us.

This month has been an amazing month, filled with “God days”. Our team continues to grow with the decision of both the Brinker’s and the Tighe’s committing to move out to the Front Range area to be involved with the church plant. We have also been blessed by many others committing to be a support through prayer, encouragement, counsel, and finances. What an awesome God!

Our team was both encouraged and challenged two weekends ago, when we were able to spend quality time with our brothers and sisters at Steadfast Bible Fellowship, one of the newest Berean Church Fellowship plants. Hearing their stories of how God has worked and continues to work, along with counsel they have learned through the blessings and difficulies of planting a church, they were an increadible help in our team’s preparation and planning.

God is truly at work, and it is such a joy to be able to join Him in what He is doing. We are both humbled and excited to continue to see what He has in store as we take the hope of the gosple to a world in need.

Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. Psalm 33:8 (KJV)

Come, ye workers, be encouraged. You fear that you cannot draw a congregation. Try the preaching of a crucified, risen, and ascended Saviour; for this is the greatest “draw” that was ever yet manifested among men. What drew you to Christ but Christ? What draws you to Him now but His own blessed self? If you have been drawn to religion by anything else, you will soon be drawn away from it; but Jesus has held you, and will hold you even to the end. Why, then, doubt His power to draw others? Go with the name of Jesus to those who have hitherto been stubborn, and see if it does not draw them.
No sort of man is beyond this drawing power. Old and young, rich and poor, ignorant and learned, depraved or amiable — all men shall feel the attractive force. Jesus is the one magnet. Let us not think of any other. Music will not draw to Jesus, neither will eloquence, logic, ceremonial, or noise. Jesus Himself must draw men to Himself; and Jesus is quite equal to the work in every case. Be not tempted by the quackeries of the day; but as workers for the Lord work in His own way, and draw with the Lord’s own cords. Draw to Christ, and draw by Christ, for then Christ will draw by you.

Boulder Church Plant-January Update

When does a church plant “launch”?
Is it when the first home group Bible study is underway? Is it when the first decision to follow Christ is made? How about when the doors of the church building are open for the first service to the public? Or maybe it's when the church plant team moves to the city where the church will be planted?
Lately, our Boulder church plant team has found ourselves saying, "Well, when will we plant the church?" or "We can't wait to launch this church plant!”. During one of our team gatherings, Josh Luse reminded us that the Emmaus Road Church Plant is currently underway and has been for several months. How? Why? Because the birth of a church is not a building or launch date, it's people…the family of God. Now I understand that establishing a local church in a particular community normally consists of people doing life together, meeting certain places on a regular basis for Bible teaching and corporate worship, and aiming to make a difference in the culture they are planted. But as we think about launching a church plant, we need to ask a question. Isn’t church life fundamentally experienced with like-minded brothers and sisters in Christ with a common mission to love God and love their neighbor as themselves? During his lifetime, the Apostle Paul personally initiated and assisted in innumerable churches. Many times these churches had already begun with Christ followers meeting in homes, growing together as new believers and caring for the needs of others. The early church spread like wildfire…with like-minded people and a common mission to love God and love their neighbor as themselves.
One definition I like for the word "launch" means to "set afloat", like a boat being released from it's dock. Talk about an accurate description of the hearts on our church plant team! Even though physically, the whole team has not launched to the Boulder area(though a few are already living there) we are quite certain our hearts have launched. We have been released by the call of God from our docks and together we have been set afloat to follow God's leading. "Has the church plant launched?" we ask. You better believe it!!

Boulder Church Plant-December Update

I trust your having an enjoyable Christmas Season with your family and loved ones? Natalie and I moved from our home in Lincoln three weeks ago now and will be living in North Platte, Nebraska for the the next five and half months, before moving to Boulder with the rest of the church plant team in June. It still seems like quite a ways off, but we know the move will be here before we know it! We appreciate your prayers over the next several months for the whole church plant launch team as we prepare for this leap of faith.

Last night our team met for our bi-weekly meeting. We normally spend our time encouraging one another, praying, and discussing the next steps needed during this preparation phase. We also are walking through the book of Acts together, a perfect study for any local church team. Jeff Kautz led us through last night's study in Acts 2 and we talked about the power of the Holy Spirit in the Church and in the Believer's life. Before Jesus ascended to Heaven, he told his followers to wait in Jerusalem and pray for a Helper before they did anything further. Why? Because Jesus knew that there was no way his followers would have any success fulfilling their mission without supernatural help! The launch of the early New Testament Church would have been doomed for failure without God's "super" on the disciple's "natural".

It was pretty clear last night what God's Word was teaching us. Our calling and efforts to this church plant in Boulder WILL fail without the powerful help of the Holy Spirit. But also, WITH the power of the Holy Spirit, the Church of the New Testament that we are still apart of today, cannot be stopped as long as the Great Helper is in the drivers seat.

I wanted to let you know of a few specific prayer requests and also some information about how you can become a financial partner in the church plant. Start up expenses have already begun in these early stages of preparations and any financial contributions as the Lord may lead, would be put to good work right away. In the next few months, we will be assembling a business plan and first year budget projections. If anyone would like to see this in the days ahead, don't hesitate to ask. We are grateful that our parent organization, The Berean Fellowship of Churches, provides solid assistance and accountability in this area of financial planning and stewardship.

The Essentials of Christianity

Essential Christianity. We hear a lot of discussion about essentials and non-essentials, but what are the essentials of Christianity?

When we talk about the essentials of Christianity we're referring to the basic elements that make up and characterize our faith, and which, of course, separate it from other beliefs. Let's survey these doctrines.

First, we believe in the authority of Scripture, which is another way of saying that the Bible is God's inspired, infallible, and inerrant Word. It's the ultimate source for knowledge about God, as well as the definitive guide for our daily lives.

Next we affirm the existence of a triune God or one God in three distinct persons - the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. This God is self-existent, eternal, unchanging, omnipotent, omnipresent, holy, righteous, and loving. God created the universe from nothing and He rules over His creation sovereignly including both human and angelic beings.

We also hold that man is a physical and spiritual being who is created in God's image. But because of his sin or transgression, man has lost his fellowship with God. The extent of sin is so great that its effects continue to this very day in the form of cruelty, suffering, and death.

By God's grace, Jesus Christ - Who is fully God and fully man - was sent to save us from our bondage to sin. We believe that Christ was born of a virgin, died for our sins, physically rose from the dead, and will one day return to judge the world and deliver His people. Faith in Christ is the only means by which mankind can escape eternal damnation and judgment.

Finally, we recognize the church as God's ordained institution headed by Christ. The church is composed of all believers, and is organized for worship, for fellowship, for the administration of the sacraments, for spiritual growth and support, and for evangelizing the world.

First church plant team gathering in Boulder!

Our first church plant team gathering in Boulder was an incredible time! Thirteen of us made it Friday night, with several others wishing they could have been there, but because of prior commitments or unforeseen circumstances-some were unable to make it. We all were blown away by the encouragement our time together brought each one of us! The highlight of the evening was hearing everyone's journey through life up to this point and the passion they shared for the church plant mission.God has definitely assembled-and continues to raise up-a dream team of brothers and sisters in Christ gearing up to engage the people of Boulder.We are praying for 10-15 households, called out to officially launch the church in June 2006. Spread the word!

Josh has enjoyed speaking, co-directing camps, leading youth networks, and missions trips, coaching, facilitating mentoring in schools, and serving as a pastor. Josh met his partner in ministry and love of his life in Lincoln, Nebraska while attending Doane College, he then transferred to Grace University to complete his education. Kris and Natalie met at Northwestern College, in St. Paul, MN. The Cheeks desire to serve the Lord has lead them to many exciting adventures and opportunities. One of which was establishing a year-round sports oriented organization (SportReach) that impacts young people in total youth development. Kris and Natalie's heart for people have been evident throughout all of their ministry as youth pastor, camp recreation director, Coach, SportReach director, and the people of Colorado's Front Range. The two enjoy the outdoors, competitive sports, and great friends! Natalie has the full-time job of raising their son, Taylor...born on Sept. 26, 2004, and daughter Jocelyn, born April 5, 2006.

Enjoying Christ is to fully be satisfied in Him as our Savior, Lord, and Friend. Not trapped or defeated by the fears, trials, or value systems of the world. Joy is a position in Christ, not a mood changing from day to day. “The Joy of the Lord is our strength!” (Nehemiah 8:10) Followers of Christ can now present themselves to the world, as joy filled, satisfied people.

The idea of engaging culture is one of taking ground for Jesus Christ, no matter your vocation or position in life. God is a missionary God, sending Christ who, in turn, said, “As the Father has sent me, so am I sending you.” John 20:21. We believe that all Christians are called to be on mission, that is to see themselves as missionaries in their world. It may be as a mechanic, nurse, teacher, salesperson, or stay at home mom.

The Bible teaches that we all are called to be ambassadors of heaven to a people that need to be "Be reconciled to God!”(2 Cor 5:20) God chooses the Church as the vehicle through which He will carry out the mission of reconciliation.

The front door of the church is the believer, not be the building. Simply put, we are asking believers must put Jesus’ model of engaging culture to work. Meeting people where they are in conversations, activities, or over a meal. We believe the intentional pursuit of friendships with people who have not put their faith in Christ is to be done by all Christ followers...all of us together are to be a great army of witnesses to the world, but we need training from God's Word, accountability, fellowship, and care.

The primary environment for this disciplemaking journey takes place in Life Group Ministry. Small Groups consisting of adults and families, made up of intergenerational friendships among believers. Life Groups meet weekly in homes and are lead by mature followers of Christ that understand their calling to live a disciple-making, missionary experience in their world. Life Group leaders are mentoring other emerging leaders for Life Group multiplication.

What We Believe

1. BIBLE: We believe the Bible, consisting of both the Old and New Testament Scriptures in their entirety, is the only divinely inspired, inerrant, objectively true, and authoritative written Word of God, and the only infallible rule of faith and practice. The divine inspiration of Scripture extends to each word of the original manuscript but not to the various copies or translations of Scripture. The Bible should be interpreted literally, grammatically, contextually, and historically. Genesis 1-3/Deuteronomy 29:29/ John 10:35/2 Timothy 3:15-17/2 Peter 1:21/1 Corinthians 2:13.

2. GOD: We believe in only one God, the Creator, who is infinite, personal, eternally existing in three persons, revealed to us in Scripture as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Genesis 1:1/Deuteronomy 6:4/Isaiah 43:10/44:6/45:22/Matthew 28:19/John 4:24/ 5:26/Colossians 1:16-19/1 Corinthians 8:4.

3. JESUS CHRIST: We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son who has neither beginning nor ending. He was conceived in the flesh by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, and is fully God and fully man. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, and arose bodily on the third day. He ascended into heaven and is now seated at the right hand of God the Father as our only mediator, high priest, and advocate. Matthew 1:23-25/John 1:1/14:3/Acts 4:12/1 Corinthians 15:3-4 & 20/Philippians 2:5-11/ 1 Timothy 2:5-6/Hebrews 4:14-16/1 Peter 2:22.

4. HOLY SPIRIT: We believe the Holy Spirit is God, the third person of the Trinity. He is a person, not a force. The Holy Spirit's ministries include: Convicting all people of sin; calling, regenerating, indwelling, and baptizing believers into the body of Christ; setting the believer apart to a holy life; and teaching, keeping, and empowering them day by day. The Holy Spirit distributes spiritual gifts to each believer according to His will. God in His sovereignty still works in miraculous ways; however, we understand that the sign gifts have served their purpose and should not be expected in the church today. John 3:5-8/Acts 1:8/5:3-4/16:7-14/1 Corinthians 2:9-12/3:16/12:3-13 & 28-31/13:8-11/Galatians 5:16-25/Ephesians 1:13-14/5:18/Hebrews 2:3-4.

5. HUMAN RACE: We believe that both man and woman were created in the image of God to enjoy a personal relationship with Him. As a result of deliberate disobedience they fell from their sinless state and they and all their descendants became sinners. Consequently, they cannot save themselves and apart from the grace of God in Jesus Christ, they are condemned to a place of eternal torment. Genesis 1:26-27/ 2:7/Matthew 5:20-48/John 3:16-18/Romans 2:6-16/5:12-21/6:23/2 Thessalonians 1:6-9/Revelation 20:13-15.

6. SALVATION: We believe we are saved solely by the grace of God through faith in Christ alone. This salvation was purchased by the substitutionary death and shed blood of Jesus Christ for the sins of every person and is offered to everyone as a free gift. The person who has trusted in the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior is eternally secure and can enjoy the assurance of salvation. We believe that at death believers enter eternal glory and that unbelievers enter eternal torment. Acts 16:31/20:20-21/Romans 3:28/10:9/1 Corinthians 15:3-4/John 1:12 /3:16/10:28/Ephesians 2:8-9/ Philippians 1:6.

7. SANCTIFICATION: We believe that every believer has been sanctified, set apart with a perfect standing before God. As we yield ourselves to the Holy Spirit, we will experience spiritual growth in holiness, but we will not experience perfection in conduct. Future rewards are determined by our obedience to the Lord. Hebrews 10:10/ Philippians 3:12/Romans 6:13-19/1 Corinthians 3:8.

8. CHURCH: We believe that Christ is the Head of the Church, which is His body. All who have trusted in Him as Savior are members of it. Christians should commit themselves to worship, instruction, fellowship, stewardship, and service in a local church. The church is responsible to represent Jesus Christ in the world through godly living and evangelism. All believers are commanded to participate in two church ordinances, believers' baptism by immersion and the Lord's Supper. Matthew 26:26-29/ 28:18-20/Acts 2:42/ 1 Corinthians 12:13/Ephesians 1:22-23/2:19-22/3:6-10/ 4:11-13/5:23-27/1 Thessalonians 2:14/Hebrews 10:25/1 Peter 2:9-10/1 John 4:17.

9. SATAN: We believe that Satan was created an angelic being. He became the author of sin, our adversary and accuser, and the great deceiver of the nations. He will finally be overcome by the Lord Jesus Christ and suffer eternal punishment in the lake of fire. Genesis 3:1/Job 1:6-12/Matthew 4:3-11/John 8:44/2 Corinthians 4:4/1 John 3:8/5:19/Revelation 12:9-10/20:10.

10. FUTURE EVENTS: We believe, on a day known only by God the Father, Jesus will rapture His church to deliver it from the judgments that God will pour upon the earth. After this terrible period, the Lord Jesus Christ will return in glory to establish His Millennial Kingdom on the earth. This will be followed by the final judgment of the wicked in the lake of fire and eternal bliss for God's children in a new heaven and a new earth. John 14:3/Acts 1:7 & 11/Romans 8:1/ 1 Corinthians 15:20 & 23/2 Corinthians 5:10/Philippians 1:23/1 Thessalonians 4:16-17/Revelation 11:15/19:11 - 21:5.

Crucified giving changes the world

Two main themes are currently determining the future of Christianity: firstly, the rediscovery of the original nature and organic structure of Church, and secondly, the rediscovery of New Testament financial principles. When much of Christianity follows money instead of the Lord, what is the effect on the original aim and mission of the Church? Could it be that its operating system - its financial principles - is damaged?

"Everything you've heard about work and money in the church is wrong!" That was the background of a 2005 book by Dr. Thomas Giudici and Wolfgang Simson, examining materialistic 'Mammon-addiction' in both individuals' lives and the Church (in German, "Der Preis des Geldes", www.preisdesgeldes.net). Constructive criticism isn't enough, though, so the book also suggests alternative financial models. One of those models is "apostolic finances", principles for work and finances which support the mission of the Church, not its self-centred or even pleasure-seeking status quo.

Around the world in the course of the past decade, well over 100,000 churches have been planted according to an entirely new model, as described in the two most recent issues of the Friday Fax 2: house churches and regional apostolic networks. Baptist researcher Dr. Jim Slack has shown that all current and past effective long-term missionary models are house church movements - or at least were in their initial phases.

In 2001, following two years of research in India funded by American Christian foundations, Dr. David Barrett discovered that investing in multiplicative organic house church movements has the highest RoI (Return on Investment). Traditional churches, with their astronomical running costs, can never win so many people to Christ and disciple them at such low cost.

What did it cost to start these 100,000 churches? Churches with no building or parking lot, no paid pastor or youth leader, no overhead projector? Totalling the costs for all the travel required, seminars, training, research projects, equipping of the few key people and multipliers, plus emergency welfare assistance, we arrive at no more than US$ 30 million per year, or around US$ 300 million over the past decade.

In comparison: traditional Christianity, with its countless programmes, mountains of paper, training, permanent evangelistic events, church buildings and maintenance costs, salaries of church employees and budgets for welfare and mission, cost an incredible US$ 286 billion per year, according to Dr. David Barrett, or US$ 2,860 billion over the decade. US$ 300 million is one ten thousandth of that sum! What would happen if Christians changed their giving habits over the next ten years, so that instead of 0.01%, 10% of Christian finances were invested in strategic multiplicative church planting movements? It would lead to a missionary explosion of incredible proportions.

In order for that to happen, we believe that a 'financial salvation' or 'financial repentance' is necessary. We call it 'crucified giving'. The cross is not logical, uncrucified giving is: it demands hard facts, reasons to expect a return on investment, a business plan and visible, rapid results. The cross is hidden, uncrucified giving finances the shiningly obvious. The cross is weak, uncrucified giving finances the strong. Crucified giving knows that we are strong when we are weak, and recognises that desert experiences are often the most important times for God's plans. Crucified giving is glad when a grain of wheat falls in the ground and dies because it knows God's promises; uncrucified giving wants a depot full of combine harvesters. Crucified giving recognises that Jesus knows what the money is for better than we do, and submits to his principles.

Why Emmaus Road?

Emmaus was a village near Jerusalem where Jesus was falsely convicted and crucified. A few days after Jesus’ crucifixion, the book of Luke records two men who followed Jesus during his ministry, returning home to their village of Emmaus. While on the road they were discussing the events surrounding their Messiah’s death. The disciples from Emmaus were counting on Jesus to redeem Israel, that is, to rescue the nation from its enemies. Most Jews believed that the Old Testament prophecies pointed to a military and political Messiah; they didn't realize that the Messiah had come to redeem people from slavery to sin. When Jesus died, therefore, they lost all hope. They didn't understand that Jesus' death offered the greatest hope possible.

While the men were walking, a man joined them on the road to Emmaus. It was Jesus, the Risen Savior! However, the men did not recognize him and were astounded that the man apparently was not aware of the terrible events about Jesus’ death. The man instead spoke of the clear prophecy found in the Bible, that the Messiah would have to suffer and die in order to enter his glory and set humanity free from their sin. When they had reached Emmaus, the two men asked the stranger to stay with them because it was getting late. That evening in the men’s home, they were eating a meal together and their guest gave thanks, and broke the bread. Immediately Luke says, the men recognized him, and he disappeared from their sight. The followers of Jesus remarked, "Were not our hearts burning within us while he talked with us on the [Emmaus] road and opened the Scriptures to us?" Luke 24:13-32 (NIV)

We are likely to miss Jesus and his commission to spread the Good News when we become preoccupied with dashed hopes and frustrated plans. Only when we are looking for Jesus in our midst will we experience the relationship, power, and calling He has for us. Jesus will set your heart of fire when you draw near to him. One cannot be near the Savior of the world and not experience his radiating love mission for all people.
